Why not take a look at this video of our school and the learning environment that we offer?
We aim to recognise and nurture the potential of every child in our school, encouraging them both academically and socially to prepare them for a form of secondary education that is most appropiate for them. To do this, we focus on combining excellence in the subjects of language and maths with a creative environment to stimulate personal development and social skills. Our teachers draw on a range of teaching approaches, encouraging each child to achieve the best progress possible. Our learning environment supports open attitudes, mutual respect and cooperation. This encourages the children to learn to develop self-confidence, self-awareness and positive behaviour towards others.
The Leidse Houtschool fosters Christian values, with respect for other races, religions and cultures. All children are welcome.
The Leidse Houtschool is located in a green, quiet and safe neighbourhood in Leiden. The school attaches great importance to a welcoming atmosphere and safe environment so that children can learn and play with each other in a stimulating environment.
The Leidse Houtschool is an IPC school (International Primary Curriculum). IPC is a comprehensive, thematic, creative curriculum, with a clear process of learning and specific learning goals for every subject. It also develops an international mindset and encourages personal development.
We have Chromebooks (laptops) for all groups and use them to support learning objectives. In groups 3 to 6, we also use Snappet, an adaptive language and maths programme which allows children to learn at their own speed and level.
Promoting mutual trust within groups and developing personal resilience are the foundations for a safe learning environment. “Kanjertraining” is a programme we use throughout the school which focusses on the social-emotional development of our students and developing positive social skills.
SCHOOL op SEEF
The Leidse Houtschool works with the “SCHOOL op SEEF” principles and is an accredited Road Safety school. All groups are given both theoretical and at least 3 practical road safety lessons each year, both on foot and by bicycle. The students in group 8 take part in the national road safety exam in April/May, consisting of a written and practical test.
We are gradually introducing English lessons for all age-groups using the “EarlyBird” approach.
